Farmer: Turkish tomatoes still imported to Armenia

There is still a problem with the presence of Turkish tomatoes in the Armenian market even after the velvet revolution, farmer Varuzhan Khodedanya told reporters on Tuesday.

“The problem of Turkish tomatoes has always been present in the Armenian market. But if earlier only a monopoly company was engaged in import of Turkish tomatoes, now many private importers are engaged in it, thus increasing the imports volume in the market,” the farmer noted.

According to the farmer Samvel Mkrtumyan, about 45% of the country’s population is engaged in the agricultural sector.

“Today there are talks about the development of information technology and other areas of the economy, but no one is talking about agriculture. This issue should be a priority for Nikol Pashinyan,” said the farmer adding the only solution to the problem can be a ban on the imports of Turkish tomatoes to Armenia.
