Seven of the ten members of the council of Akhtala enlarged community of the Republic of Armenia’s (RA) Lori Province have issued a statement proposing that Akhtala be renamed Aznavour, News.am reports.
“In consideration of a group of intellectuals’ statement addressed to RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, with the proposal to rename the Akhtala community with the name Aznavour – in memory of renowned Armenian chansonnier Charles Aznavour, we inform that we welcome the initiative, and propose to name Aznavour the administrative name of Akhtala enlarged community where all settlements in the community will continue to bear their current names,” the statement reads, in particular. “The [Akhtala] council of elders’ members who have joined this statement will come up with a respective initiative at the upcoming council of elders’ session of Akhtala community.
Legendary French Armenian artist Charles Aznavour passed away on October 1, aged 94.
