Armenian Genocide Memorial to be unveiled in Geneva on April 24

Armenian Genocide monument “Lanterns of Memory” will be inaugurated in the Trembley Park in Geneva on April 24, Bluewin.ch reported.

The Geneva Court of Justice rejected in January the appeal of people living near the park, who opposed to the presence of the work. They denounce the fact that the green space that serves as a place for relaxation is “becoming politicized.”

Their lawyer, National Councilor Yves Nidegger, announced Friday to have appealed to the Federal Court (TF) to examine the case from this angle.

The monument was initially planned to be installed in the park of the Ariana Museum. Back in 2014 the Swiss Foreign Ministry recommended not erecting an Armenian genocide memorial in Ariana Park as originally planned.

This memorial is composed of nine street lamps, almost ten meters high, ending at the end with a teardrop bulb.
