Armenia temporarily suspends passport services at embassies and consulates

Siranush Ghazanchyan

Armenia will temporarily suspend passport issuance and replacement services provided through the country’s embassies and consular offices starting October 5, 2026, Armenian diplomatic missions have announced.

The suspension, which also applies to services provided via video link, is linked to the introduction of a new biometric system for identity documents in Armenia.

The new system is being introduced under the Law on Identity Documents, adopted on May 11, 2026. According to the diplomatic missions, the temporary suspension is necessary to organize the transition to the new system.

Passport issuance and replacement services through Armenian embassies and consular institutions will remain suspended until further notice.

Information on when the services will resume will be published through the official information platforms of Armenia’s diplomatic service bodies.

Armenian citizens abroad are advised to follow announcements from the relevant embassy or consular office for updates on the resumption of passport services.
