YEREVAN — Armenia plans to begin exporting up to 40 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables per week to the United Arab Emirates starting next month, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding, the Ministry of Economy said.
Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan met with Omar Mohammad Hamdan Abdalla Alshamsi, founder and CEO of Watermelon Ecosystem. Deputy Economy Minister Arman Khojoyan also participated in the meeting.
Alshamsi presented the activities of Watermelon Ecosystem, a UAE-based platform that connects restaurants, food suppliers, producers and farmers while offering digital purchasing and supply-chain management solutions.
The sides discussed opportunities for cooperation and investment projects, expanding exports of Armenian products, and establishing connections between Armenian producers and buyers and distributors in the UAE and other international markets.
Papoyan highlighted investments made in Armenia’s agricultural sector in recent years and production capacity meeting international standards. He emphasized the importance of expanding access to international markets, particularly for small and medium-sized producers.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides signed a memorandum of understanding intended to facilitate long-term and stable exports of fresh fruits and vegetables from Armenia.
