Tigran Petrosian Chess House, officially the Central House of Chess-player named after Tigran Petrosian, is one of the key sports facilities in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital.
The chess house, located on Khanjyan Street in downtown Yerevan, is listed among the historical and cultural monuments of the capital, reports Panorama.am.
Founded in 1970, the house was named after former world chess champion Tigran Petrosian in 1984. The Soviet Armenian chess star himself laid the first stone in the foundation of the building.
The architect of the triangular-shaped building resembling a chess rook was Zhanna Meshcheryakova.
According to many visitors, the house is one of the best chess centers in the world. The building has housed numerous major international chess events, including the Tigran Petrosian Memorial. It is also the venue of the yearly domestic chess championship.
