ՀԱՅՐԵՆԵԱՑ ՊԱՇՏՊԱՆՈՒԹԻՒՆԸ՝ ՀԱՅ ՔՐԻՍՏՈՆՅԵԱՅԻՆ
ՆՈՒԻՐԱԿԱՆ ՊԱՐՏԱԿԱՆՈՒԹԻՒՆՆ Է

 

Արտաշխարհ ապրող հայ ժողովուրդի զաւակաց կեանքը պայմանաւորուած է խաղաղ եւ բարգաւաճ Հայրենիքով: Երբ վտանգի մէջ է մեր երկիրը, ցաւ ու տառապանքի մէջ է նաեւ ողջ Հայութիւնը: Այդպիսին է նաեւ իրավիճակը այսօր Հայաստանի մէջ եւ ի մասնաւորի Արցախ աշխարհի համար: Փառք Ամենակալին Աստուծոյ, որ Հայ քաջարի զինուորներ Վարդանանց ու Սարդարապատի հերոս-ներու ոգով կը պաշտպանեն մեր մայր երկրի սահմանները ապահովելու համար մեր ժողովուրդի խաղաղութիւնն ու բարգաւաճ պետականութիւնը, ընդհուպ մինչեւ իսկ սուրբ արեան գնով նուիրագործելով հողը հայրենական:

Բոլորիս հոգու պարտքն է անսալ մեր արեան կանչին եւ գործնական զօրակ-ցութիւն ցոյց տալ նահատակ հայ զինուորներու ընտանիքներուն եւ ծանրօրէն վիրաւորուած քաղաքացիներուն, որոնք Ապրիլի 1-2ի օրերուն թշնամու կողմէ կանխամտածուած յարձակման ենթարկուեցան, երբ խաթարուեցաւ մեր խաղաղ ազգակիցներու կեանքը:

Սիրելի հաւատաւոր Հայ քրիստոնեայ, մեր սրտագին կոչն է, որ ամէնքս միասնաբար մասնակից դառնանք հայրենեաց պաշտպանութեան սուրբ առաքելու-թեան, մեր բարոյական ու տնտեսական աջակցութիւնը բերելով Առաջնորդարանի հովանաւորութեանը ներքոյ հաստատուած «Հայրենեաց պաշտպանութեան ֆոնդ»ին: Պահը հիմա է, որ յոյս ներշնչենք Հայ քաջարի զինուորին, որ իր կեանքը կը պատարագէ՝ իր յետին թողնելով ընտանիքը եւ պարտաւորութիւնները: Մեր պարտքն է ցաւ ու տառապանքի մէջ եղող Հայ երիտասարդ մայրերուն ու զաւակաց հոգու մէջ յոյսի, զօրակցութիւն եւ աղօթքի կաթիլ մը հոսեցնել: Հետեւեցէք կայքէջե-րուն վրայ տեղադրուած տեղե-կութեանց եւ պիտի տեսնէք թէ ինչպէս մեր ազգի զաւակները դարձած են մէկ հոգի ու սիրտ, եւ իրենց մայրերու պատգամին խոնարհելով՝ կռուի դաշտ կը մեկնին յանուն հաւատի եւ յանուն հայրենեաց: Ուրեմն, մեր Հայրենիքին ու ազգին պատկանելիութիւն մը արդարացնող արարք մը կատարելու կանչը կը լսենք Մայր Հայրենիքէն ու Արցախէն: Միմեանց քաջալերեցէք եւ հայրենեաց պաշտպանութիւնը դարձնենք մեր կեանքի նշանաբանը: Հայրենիքը՝ Աստուծոյ պարգեւն է: Մեր նուիրական պարտքը պիտի ըլլայ զայն  փոխանցել գալիք սերունդներուն աւելի հզօր:

Թող Աստուած խաղաղ ու անսասան պահէ մեր սուրբ երկիրը եւ հովանի ըլլայ զինուորին: Մեզի համար մէն մի Հայ զինուոր ազգն է: Հայ զինուորի պատարագուած կեանքը՝ ճանապարհն է դէպի Յարութիւն, դէպի յաղթանակ:

EVERY CHRISTIAN’S DUTY
It is the duty of every one of us to reach out to the families of the fallen soldiers and citizen and the gravely wounded who suffered as a result of the heinous massive scale military attacks perpetrated by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
 
A thriving Diaspora is conditioned by a peaceful and a prosperous Armenia and Artsakh. Military turmoil, whether in Armenia or Artsakh means the suffering of the Armenians around the globe. The present situation in Artsakh is alarming to say the least. We praise the Almighty God for the valiant soldiers who protect our borders with the courageous spirit of their heroic ancestors in the Battles of Avarayr and Sardarabad. They serve to protect the freedom-loving people of the Republic of Armenia and the Nagorno Karabakh Republic even if it requires paying the ultimate price, namely, sacrificing their God-given lives.

 
Beloved Christian Armenian, it is with a genuine plea that we call upon you to take part in the humanitarian effort. By donating to “Humanitarian Fund for Artsakh,” a special fund established at the Western Diocese to support the families in need, you will extend a helping hand, and will instill hope in the grief-stricken hearts of mothers, wives and children. Through web and media outlets, we witness how the hearts of Armenians around the world beat in unison. Therefore, let us answer to the call from the distant mountainous regions of Armenia and Artsakh. Encourage and motivate your loved ones to promote peace. The Homeland is God’s gift to us. It is our noble duty to pass down a stronger and prosperous Armenia and Artsakh to the next generation.

May God bless and protect the Republic of Armenia, Artsakh and the Armenian people.

Prayers for Peace: Hundreds Take Part in a Prayer Vigil for the Fallen Soldiers and Civilians
VIDEO – Hundreds Gather at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral for a Prayer Vigil
Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America, on Tuesday, April 5, at 7:00 PM, clergy, public officials and community leaders gathered in the sanctuary of St. Leon Armenian Cathedral to offer Prayers for Peace. Hundreds took part in the ecumenical service which aimed to promote God’s peace on earth. In the Gospel according to St. Matthew “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” (Matthew 21:22). With resolute faith in the Almighty, the Armenian-American community prayed for peace.

The students of Yerevan’s Armen Tigranian Music School performed beautiful renditions of “Lord Have Mercy” (Der Voghormia) “Christ Was Revealed Among Us” (Kreesdos ee Mech Mer Haydnetsav).

At the conclusion of the service the faithful sang the Armenian National Anthem in unison.
 
Below is a part of the Primate’s message addressed to the Armenian-American community:

 “We pray to the Almighty God to accept the souls of those who perished. May they rest in the abode of the Heavenly Saints. May God grant solace and consolation to their loved ones and a speedy recovery to all who have been injured as a result of the violent attacks.”

May God be with the peace-seeking soldiers of the Armenian Armed Forces.” said His Holiness.

As a peace-loving nation, we gather here tonight to pray for peace in our Motherland, for the departed souls of our soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for their Christian Faith as well as for the defense of the Nagorno Karabakh Repbulic and the Republic of Armenia.

In response to the escalating situation of war an immediate act of faith as also been taken by the clergy of the Western Diocese, the Diocesan Council and a group of benefactors in establishing a humanitarian fund for Artsakh to reach out to our brothers and sisters to the families who have lost their beloved ones and to those who have been affected by serious injuries.

We pray to the Almighty God to grace upon all divine wisdom so that peace prevails and people continue to live prosperous lives. The wounds of the war will be healed with our help and support. And divine peace can be secured with faith in God and respect for human life.

            Ահաւասիկ այդ մտահոգութեամբ ու գիտակցութեամբ երէկ առաւօտեան արտահերթ ժողովներ ունեցանք առաջին հերթին Մեծն Լոս Անճելըսի մեր հոգեւորականաց  դասի հետ եւ ապա Թեմի բարերարաց հետ, որուն ներկայ էր մեզ հետ նաեւ Թեմական Խորհուրդի Ատենապետը: Մեր յանձնառութիւնը եղաւ անյապաղ ձեռնարկել նուիրահաւաքի ու համապատասխան միջոցներու ձեռքբեր-ման, որպէսզի Մայր Աթոռ Սբ. Էջմիածնի միջոցաւ գործնապէս ցոյց տայինք մեր զօրակցութիւնն նիւթական նուէրներով ու քաղաքական շրջանակներու մօտ մեր բողոքի ձայնը լսելի դարձնելով: Նոյն այս աշխատանքը արդէն իսկ կը ծաւալենք մեր Թեմի բոլոր կառոյցներէն ներս, որպէսզի համատեղուած ուժերով յոյս հաղորդենք հայրենի մեր ժողովուրդին:

            Երէկ երեկոյեան Առաջնորդարանի գրասենեակէն հրապարակեցինք սրտագին կոչ մը հետեւեալ վերնագրով.

            Խաղաղասէր մեր ժողովուրդի կեանքի անդորրը խաթարուած է այս օրերուն, որովհետեւ բոլորս քաջ կը գիտակցինք, որ մեր ազգի ու եկեղեցւոյ զաւակաց օրն ու կեանքը կ’իմաստաւորուի միայն Մայր Հայրենիքով: Եւ երբ ցաւի ու վտանգի առջեւ է հայրենեաց հողը, ապա մեր հաւատքն ու նուիրումին մէջ հաստատ մնալով հանդերձ, անտարակոյս մեր եռանդին մէջ կը տկարանանք եւ մարդկայնօրէն մեր մէջ կը նուազի նաեւ ստեղծագործելու ոգին:


           Աղօթքն այս երեկոյ բոլորս ի մի կը հաւաքէ, որպէսզի մեր սրտի խօսքն առ Աստուած   բարձրացնենք մեր հայրենի երկրի ու Արցախ աշխարհի խաղաղութեան համար, զոհեալ ազատամարտիկներու հոգիներու խաղաղութեան համար եւ պատերազմի պատճառով ծանրօրէն վիրաւորեալներու շուտափոյթ ապաքինմանը համար:

Սիրելի բարեպաշտ հայորդիք,

“Humanitarian Fund for Artsakh” Special Committee Formed
On April 4, the Office of the Western Diocese informed the faithful about the establishment of “A Humanitarian Fund for Artsakh”. We are delighted to inform that over $400,000 has been raised. A Special Committee has been also formed.

This fundraising shall continue and incoming donations will be transferred to the needy through the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

We call upon our beloved faithful to partake and contribute to the humanitarian mission.

Mer Hooys Update – Mer Hooys Residents Share with Wounded Soldiers and Their Families
On April 6, 2016, the older residents of Mer Hooys offered their daily share of fruits and juices for the wounded soldiers from the recent fighting in Karabagh.  The girls prepared care packages that included fruit, juices, pakhlava made by one of the girls, and tea and coffee.  With staff, they went to the local hospital in Yerevan where the soldiers and their families were.

They shared  coffee, tea and sweets with the families, and juice and fruit with the wounded soldiers.  Mer Hooys has taught our girls that service to others is a gift that gives back in ways that cannot be measured.

 Fr. Pakrad Bourjekian Appointed as General Overseer of the Saturday Schools of the Western Diocese
On April 8, 2016, the Very Rev. Fr. Pakrad Bourjekian was appointed as the General Director of the Saturday Schools of the Western Diocese. The appointment was made official by the letter of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, the Diocesan Primate. Fr. Pakrad will be working closely with the Saturday School Executive Committee under the leadership of Dr. Ellie Antreassian as well as the Parish Priests in the overall development of the curriculum.
Fr. Pakrad Bourjekian Visits Local Armenian Schools
To get better acquainted with the Armenian Schools in the area, on April 6, Father Pakrad visited the Alfred and Marguerite Hovsepian School and the AGBU Vatche and Tamar Manoukian School in Pasadena where the clergyman met with the principals of the schools Mr. Shahe Mankerian and Dr. Armine Movsisyan, respectively. Father Pakrad was accompanied by the Diocesan Youth Director Dn. Artak Khachikyan.

Requiem Service and Special Prayer at the Western Diocese
At the directive of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, following the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, April 3, 2016, a Requiem Service was held for souls of the fallen soldiers and innocent civilians who perished as a result of the military aggression by the Azerbaijani Army. A special prayer was also held for the speedy recovery of those who were seriously wounded and injured. 
The Primate Offers Prayers for ABMDR Patients During the Celebration of the Divine Liturgy
On Sunday, April 3, during the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at St. Leon Cathedral in Burbank, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese, offered prayers for patients of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR).
For the past several years, the Western Diocese has marked a special Prayer Day in honor of ABMDR patients. The Prayer Day is observed at St. Leon Cathedral as well as Armenian churches across Southern California.
During his sermon on April 3, Arch. Derderian prayed for the recovery and healing of ABMDR patients, and commended the selfless work of the hundreds of volunteers who stand behind the life-saving mission of the pan-Armenian organization. Arch. Derderian also urged congregants to generously support the work of ABMDR by making donations, becoming volunteers, and joining the registry’s ranks as potential bone marrow stem cell donors.
“For nearly two decades, the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry has been most instrumental in the life of the community in raising awareness to save lives,” Arch. Derderian said. “The mission is now spreading throughout many countries, amongst which a pool of donors come from Armenia. There is no doubt that under the able leadership of Dr. Frieda Jordan, together with the members of the Board, the mindset of our community has been influenced by the noble mission of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry as we share and extend God’s love to all people. Much can be said about ABMDR. May God continue to bless your most rewarding mission of saving lives.”
After the church service, scores of parishioners had the opportunity to become more familiar with the activities of ABMDR as a team of Board members and volunteers answered questions and handed out information about becoming donors.
“With his ongoing and steadfast support of our mission, Arch. Derderian inspires thousands to follow in his footsteps and make a difference in the lives of those struck by life-threatening blood-related illnesses,” said ABMDR President Dr. Frieda Jordan. “We are truly blessed to have visionary and dedicated leaders and community activists such as Primate Derderian.”
About the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry: Established in 1999, ABMDR, a nonprofit organization, helps Armenians and non-Armenians worldwide survive life-threatening blood-related illnesses by recruiting and matching donors to those requiring bone marrow stem cell transplants. To date, the registry has recruited over 28,000 donors in 28 countries across four continents, identified over 3,500 patients, and facilitated 26 bone marrow transplants. Western Diocese in the Community
Diocesan Clergy Attend Monthly Luncheon at Ararat Home

 

On April 5, 2016, the Very Rev. Fr. Pakrad Bourjekian and Archpriest Fr. Hovsep Hagopian attended the monthly luncheon at Ararat Home in Mission Hills. The event’s major sponsor was the Western District Committee of the Armenian General Benevolent Union along with all AGBU chapters, branches and organizations in the Southern California area.

Prior to the start of the opening prayer, Father Pakrad, on behalf of the Diocesan Primate, invited the guests to join him in a moment of silence for those soldiers and civilians who perished as a result of the Azeri military aggression. The moment of silence was followed by a requiem prayer for the repose of their souls.
The clergyman blessed the tables and thanked the Board of Directors of Ararat Home for the invitation and the AGBU for their compassionate care for the elderly of the community.

Father Pakrad also added that his fellow Brother in Christ Archpriest Fr. Hovsep Hagopian pays regular visits to nursing home offering the elderly morally and spiritually guidance.
Fr. Pakrad Bourjekian Represents the Primate at the Sound of Spring Concert
On April 6, the Very Rev. Fr. Pakrad Bourjekian represented the Primate at The Sound of Spring Concert featuring Tigran Erkanyan (I Violin), Armen Mangasaryan (II Violin), Sahak Karapetyan (Viola), Hovik Hovannisyan (Cello), and vocalists Suren Mkrtchyan (Tenor) Nune Genjoyan (Soprano) and Armine Ghazaryan (Sorpano). The event, which was held at the Salem Lutheran Church in Glendale was organized by the Hi-Am Foundation.
ACYO Central Council Meeting at
the Western Diocese
On April 3, the ACYO Central Council, held a meeting at the Diocesan Headquarters under the presidency of the Diocesan Primate. Preparations for upcoming ACYO events including next week’s Jr. ACYO Retreat and next month’s ACYO Sports Weekend were discussed. Diocesan Youth Director Dn. Artak Khachikyan also participated in the meeting.
Anush Opera Performers from Armenia Visit the Western Diocese
The students of the Yerevan Municipality Music School named after Armen Tigranyan visited the Headquarters of the Western Diocese on April 3, 2016. The promising young singers met with the Primate who commended their God-given talent and encouraged them to remain steadfast in their pursuit of music education.
Under the auspices of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America and the esteemed patronage of Ms. Silva Kavoukjian, on April 17 the young singers will perform the world renowned “Anoush” Opera at the iconic Alex Theater in Glendale.

Each year, the Armen Tigran Music School takes part in local, national and international festivals winning recognition for their outstanding performances.
St. Sarkis Armenian Church of Santa Clarita Marks 6th Anniversary
St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church of Santa Clarita celebrated its 6th Anniversary with a gala banquet on April 2, 2016. The celebratory event was held at the Dream Palace Banquet Hall in Glendale.

The Pastor of the Armenian-American community of Santa Clarita the Rev. Fr. Nerses Hayrapetyan, highlighted the accomplishments of St. Sarkis Church since its establishment as a mission parish in 2004. In his remarks, Fr. Nerses reflected on the tremendous strides taken by the parish in its brief history. He expressed his gratitude to His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian for his pastoral guidance and support throughout the years.

The Primate commended the collective efforts of Fr. Nerses Hayrapetyan, the members of the Parish Council, Ladies Society and all auxiliary bodies of the Santa Clarita parish for their service. His Eminence encouraged parishioners to serve Christ, our Lord with renewed passion and zeal. In appreciation of their relentless dedication and selfless service, the Primate presented Fr. Nerses with a hand cross.
In his congratulatory letter addressed to the faithful of the Santa Clarita parish, His Eminence wrote in part “St. Sarkis Armenian Church of Santa Clarita has been an exemplary parish of the Western Diocese. Under the resolute pastoral leadership of the Rev. Fr. Nerses Hayrapetyan, and the collective efforts of the Parish Council and the auxiliary bodies, the parish, nestled in the heart of Newhall, has continually flourished. Your beloved Father Nerses has been the catalyst of strength and unity. As your spiritual leader, the young pastor has demonstrated tremendous passion of mission fulfillment. We express our words of appreciation to the entire community for your unrelenting dedication to carrying out the mission of St. Sarkis Armenian Church.  
Through its thriving Saturday and Sunday Schools, the vibrant youth have been inspired by the Gospel of Christ, our Lord as well as the sacred traditions of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Christian values which we commonly hold in reverence.”
