Dn. Rith-Najarian to be Ordained as a Priest

The parishioners of the St. Sarkis Church of Charlotte, NC, are anticipating an extraordinary milestone this weekend, as their deacon-in-charge, Dn. Benjamin Rith-Najarian, becomes a priest of the Armenian Church. Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Diocesan Primate, will ordain Dn. Benjamin into the holy priesthood in services at the Charlotte church. The ordination will begin with the traditional Service of Calling on Saturday, December 6. On Sunday, December 7, Archbishop Barsamian will celebrate the Divine Liturgy and ordain Dn. Benjamin. A celebratory banquet will follow.

The newly-ordained priest will travel to St. Nersess Seminary for his 40-day period of seclusion, which will involve fasting, meditation, and prayer. He will later return to St. Sarkis Church as its pastor.
Dn. Benjamin holds a bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences and a master of divinity from St. John’s University of Minnesota. He is also a graduate of St. Nersess Armenian Seminary, and has studied in Jerusalem, Syria, and Armenia. In August 2013, Dn. Benjamin and his wife Danielle DerAsadourian relocated to Charlotte, where Dn. Benjamin was appointed as deacon-in-charge.
