Feast of Transfiguration at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral

On July 27, the Armenian Apostolic Church observed the Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At St. Leon Armenian Cathedral, the service was presided by Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian. With hundreds of faithful in attendance for the Tabernacle Feast, the day’s celebrant and homilist was the Ecumenical Director of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin His Grace Bishop Hovakim Manukyan.

Feast of Transfiguration at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral
On July 27, the Armenian Apostolic Church observed the Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At St. Leon Armenian Cathedral, the service was presided by Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian. With hundreds of faithful in attendance for the Tabernacle Feast, the day’s celebrant and homilist was the Ecumenical Director of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin His Grace Bishop Hovakim Manukyan. His Grace was assisted at the Holy Altar by Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan, Pastor of the Cathedral and the Deacons. The Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian, Archpriest Fr. Sipan Mekhsian and the Rev. Fr. Mikayel Kyureghyan participated in the service.
During the service, Armenian writers Mr. Grish Davtian, Mr. Boghos Koupelian, and Mr. Kevork Kristinian were honored with the Pontifical Encyclical of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and St. Sahag – St. Mesrop medals for their contribution to the Armenian literature and culture. 
Archbishop Derderian congratulated the medal recipients for the high honor bestowed upon them by the Catholicos of All Armenians. His Eminence commended the honorees for continuing the noble deed of the Holy Translators. He encouraged the writers to continue to keep the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the Motherland and the Armenian people in their hearts as sources of inspiration.
The Primate introduced the celebrant bishop to the congregation. “As the Primate of the Diocese of Artik and the Ecumenical Director of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Bishop Manukyan has exceptionally performed the pastoral duties entrusted to him by the Almighty God. It is with immense joy that we welcome our Brother in Christ to the Western Diocese,” said Archbishop Derderian.
The guest celebrant bishop expressed his gratitude to the Primate for the warm welcome and extended the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians to the faithful. Bishop Manukyan’s sermon was focused on the Tabernacle Feast, the Transfiguration of Christ and the Bible verse “This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him.” (Matthew 17:5).
At the directive of the Primate, a Requiem Service was held for the souls of the victims of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17, the Middle East crisis and the Lisbon freedom-fighters.
A light reception was held following the service at the Hampar Family Reception Room.
