Expert on Armenian Monuments

YEREVAN – Chairman of the foundation studying Armenian architecture Samvel Karapetian summed up his organization’s work during a meeting with journalists on Thursday. The expert said they had organized expeditions to Armenian communities of Iran in May and June. Karapetian also mentioned the expeditions to Shirak, Lori and Tavush regions organized within the framework of “SOS-Culture” program.

Speaking about Armenian monuments abroad, the expert said monuments are vulnerable to destruction in Azerbaijan, pointing out the destroyed Armenian cemetery in Jugha.
Turkey, on the contrary, is restoring historic monuments for political purposes. As to Georgia, the monuments are neither destroyed nor renovated, except for Surb Nshan church in Tbilisi. The expeditions to Armenia’s north revealed.
