Christmas art exhibition at St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral

Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America
January 5 And 6, 2012 | New York City, New York’s St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral is pleased to announce that a special art exhibit will be on display in the Diocesan Complex as part of the upcoming observance of Armenian Christmas.

Armenian Christmas and the Legacy of Armenian Artists is an exhibition of works by prominent Yerevan-based painters as well as by prolific Armenian artists based in America.
According to exhibit curator Vicki Shoghag Hovanessian: “In the exhibit, intimately-scaled paintings and jewel-like paper works are set against larger paintings that engulf the spectator in magnificent, theatrical encounters. The selections embrace the harmony and tension of contemporary Armenian identity, testifying to our belief that art enhances human vision and enriches culture.”
The exhibition will be accompanied by an informal catalogue with an essay by Raphy Sarkissian (School of Visual Arts faculty, New York).
Armenian Christmas and the Legacy of Armenian Artists will be on display in Guild Hall and Yerevan Hall of the St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral complex, 630 Second Avenue (at 35th Street), in New York City.
The opening reception will be held on January 5, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Viewing hours are from 1 to 6:30 p.m. on January 5, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on January 6.
Call (212) 686-0710 for additional information. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
