Primate’s Christmas Message

Published on Dec 23 2011 by Divan of the Diocese
“And put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). The Blessed Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the most significant miracle in the life of humanity, which leads it to a New Life. This New Life is conditioned through our relationship with the Almighty, as we are filled with prayer and spiritually empowered by the strength of the Christian faith. For us as Christians, the New Life begins with the Birth of Christ, through His Incarnation, the Descent of the Only Begotten from Heaven for the salvation of souls of humanity.

“Put on the new nature”
This message of St. Paul speaks to us all with the understanding that the Blessed Birth of our Lord inspires the people of the world with the Newness of life. This by itself embodies the divine presence in the life of humanity, which leads us to the Newness of life, a life which ought to be the reflection of the love of God and the message of the Holy Gospel. St. Paul calls on us all to put on the New Person, namely Christ, our Lord and live our lives with Christ, by instilling in our hearts divine love and wisdom towards one another.
We live in a world where the advancement of science and modern technology has become limitless. However, humanity is in dire need of the Word of God and the Light of the Gospel. The person who builds the life upon the Word of God lives a life full of spiritual and moral values, a life in accordance to the good example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thus, we become the peacemakers of the world.
“Put on the new nature created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
The blessed Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is clearly the engagement of the Almighty God in the life of humanity, which has paved the journey toward God. Those who walk through this journey and live a life with God certainly are able to bring their share for creating a better world for us all.
The Birth of our Lord has transpired our people with the vision of St. Gregory the Illuminator , who saw clearly and vividly the Descent of the Son of God on the blessed soil of Armenia. His vision remains to be the core of our Christian faith. Therefore, the vision of St. Gregory should not be disclosed in a specific timeframe. The vision has been passed on from generation to generation as the spiritual nucleus of our Christian life.
As we celebrate the Blessed Birth of Christ, our Lord, we relive the mission of the Armenian Church and set a new beginning in our lives. This celebration implies also an important aspect: it renews in us our commitment to be faithful and dedicated to God and to the faith of our forefathers, but above all to the Armenian Church and her sacred traditions with special homage to the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
“Put on the new nature”
Celebrate the Birth of our Lord. Our calling is that we live our God-given life with purity. In the creation, God made man to be the most perfect, thus empowering us with the divine gifts to make spirituality a visible state of our identity. God blessed us all with the Birth of Jesus and paved the way for us to meet the saints and martyrs, teachers of the Christian faith, who have lived the Birth of their new life.
“Christ is born and revealed. Blessed is the Revelation of Christ.”
The Birth of our Lord is the call addressed to all humanity, in order that through His Birth we lead a life similar to that of Christ, our Savior.
“Put on the new nature”
Dear faithful parents, let the Birth of Christ, our Lord be the journey of your children in order that they may enlighten their mind and thoughts with God’s love.
Dear youth and children, let the Birth of our Lord become the mission of your life, in order that the tree of your life brings forth abundant light.
Our message is addressed to all in order that with the courage of your faith, you may celebrate the Blessed Birth of Christ and make the His life mirror your own.
Dear faithful, on the auspicious occasion of the New Year and the Blessed Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we wish you a long, healthy and prosperous life. Be firm in your commitment to live a virtuous life, a life lived for the glory of God.
“Christ is born and revealed. Blessed is the Revelation of Christ.”
Prayerfully,
Archbishop Hovnan Derderian
