Western Diocese e-Newsletter

The following is a message from Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.Ten years after September 11, 2001, the world continues to observe with reverence the memory of the victims whose martyrdom will be a symbol of freedom, justice and true peace against all whose who defy God’s greatest gift of life. Year after year, Americans and world citizens commemorate September 11th with prayer and meditation for the souls of the victims who have lost their lives as a result of terrorist attacks on American soil and for their beloved ones who undoubtedly will continue to suffer for the remainder of their lives.

The act of crime perpetrated on September 11, 2001 is an injustice against humanity. The voice of the peacemakers of the world cannot be silenced when terrorist attacks shatter the beauty of God’s creation. Terrorism is ultimately a shameful act against God and the children of God.  Through commemorative gatherings, we are invited in our prayers to bring the love of God to the hearts of the people of God. Human life mirrors the image of God. Preservation of life in a peaceful world is the realization of God’s dream. The life of each person should be a living prayer, a statement of peace and the spiritual energy of prosperity.
September 11, 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the darkest day of American history.  However, September 11th, 2011 will be the day of “One Light” for us all as religious and civic leaders as well as members of our respective communities. On September 11th we will unite as one family of citizens of America and the entire world. Through our prayers we will be committing our lives for the realization of the dreams and the aspirations of the victims of September 11th attacks. However, their noble spirits of peace will forever remain in our hearts.
America has once again risen from the ashes of darkness. The New Life we all embrace today will be the luminous crown to the memory of the victims. May the prayers we offer today to God armor us all with divine wisdom in order that we may all become the holy hands of the Almighty God in the world which God has created.
Archbishop Hovnan Derderian
Primate
