THE MOSCOW MEETING OF ARMENIAN AND RUSSIAN PRESIDENTS

Yerevan, October. ArmInfo. Robert Kocharyan, President of Armenia, met with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, in Moscow today.

Radio ‘Liberty’ reports that the Presidents discussed economic, energy and political cooperation issues. Concerning the economic cooperation, President Putin said that cargo turnover between the two states has grown up by 60% in 2006. However, Russia is on the 3rd place among the investors to Armenia. “It is odd that Russia is not the leading investor, keeping in mind that Armenia is Russia’s strategic partner”, V. Putin said.

R. Kocharyan touched upon the successful example of the bilateral cooperation within the joint enterprise ‘ArmRosgasprom’ and reconstruction of Armenian foil-rolling factory v now a property of Russian ‘Sibal’ Company. According to the President, the agreement with ‘Rosgasprom’ was reached and the volume of Russian investments to Armenian economy will grow next year. President Kocharyan said that there is no project of the ‘Armenal’ kind in the whole region.

The Presidents have also discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. They also touched upon gas transportation, the railway program and stressed its importance for Russian side. There is no press conference scheduled in Moscow because it is a work visit of Armenian President to Russia.

President Kocharyan will meet with Mikhail Fradkov, Prime Minister of Russia, tomorrow. Then, R. Kocharyan and Yury Lyzhkov, Mayor of Moscow, will take part …
