Armenia goalkeeper´s saves nail a 0-0 draw with Finland

YEREVAN, Oct 7 (Reuters) – Armenia goalkeeper Gevorg Kasparov clinched a 0-0 draw with Finland with eight important second-half saves in their Euro 2008 Group A qualifier on Saturday.

After a relatively uneventful first half, marked by yellow cards for Finland’s Sami Hyypia and Armenian Karen Aleksanyan, Finland racked up the pressure.

Kasparov denied them a win, however, blocking eight shots on goal between the 72nd and 85th minutes.

The draw will disappoint Finland, who have raised their sights under their new coach, Englishman Roy Hodgson. After failing to win a match in the year leading up to the qualifiers, Finland made an impressive start with a 3-1 win against Poland.

Armenia travel to Serbia for their next match on Wednesday while Finland are away to Kazakhstan.
