AUTHORITIES PROMISE TO MODERNIZE ZVARTNOTS HIGHWAY BY NOVEMBER

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS: Authorities in Yerevan municipality plan to finish a major reconstruction of the road leading to Armenia’s main Zvartnots airport before November. The municipality has released 2.4 billion drams to reshape the road that stretches from Victory bridge in downtown Yerevan to the main airport.

Frunze Basentsian, head of construction department of the municipality, said as a result the road will turn into a European class highway. He said the road will have two lanes-one for traffic to the airport and back and the other for residents of houses located on its both sides and visitors to casinos and furniture shops dotted along the road.

The second road will be separated by the main highway by a 1.5 high fence. Basentsian said the fence is to hide casinos and shops from foreign travelers arriving in Yerevan. He added the fence will not disrupt the work of casinos and shops adding that underground passages and turning points will be built along the entire highway.
