BUSY SUMMER FOR NURHAN ARMAN

Sinfonia Toronto’s Music Director Nurhan Arman will leave next week for an extended tour of Italy.

On July 17 he will appear in the Abruzzo region’s renowned Mozart Festival Settimana Mozartiana conducting an all-Mozart program. At this festival he will rendezvous with the Romanian State Philharmonic Orchestra of Sibiu-Hermanstadt. The featured soloist for the occasion will be the Brazilian pianist Miguel Proenca. The concert is at 21.30 at the Piazza San Giustino di Chieti.

Following the Mozart program Maestro Arman will proceed to Palermo to guest-conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica Sicilliana. Maestro Arman will conduct three concerts with this orchestra, premiering Italian composer Marco Betta’s oratorio ‘Letters from War and Death’. Also on the program is Beethoven’s First Symphony. The concerts are as follows: On July 21 in Palermo (Villa Trabia), July 22 at Cefalù (Atrio del Vescovado) and July 23 at Sciacca (Palazzo Municipale).

During the 2006-2007 season Maestro Arman will guest-conduct in Portugal and will make three more trips to Italy to conduct various orchestras. His next Toronto appearance will be at Sinfonia Toronto’s season-opening concert on October 7 with pianist Richard Raymond in a program titled ‘Beethoven’s World’.
