ARMENIANS RECEIVE HIGHER WAGES, SPEND MORE


YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 20, ARMENPRESS: Armenian statistical committee said population’s money income in the first month of 2006 amounted to 73.2 billion Armenians drams and their expenses made 86.2 billion drams.

It said the bulk of expenditures, 68.6 billion drams, was spent on services and purchase of goods. Incomes and expenses rose 14 and 9.9 percent respectively from a year ago. The committee said also by the end of January the army of officially registered unemployed was 88,500. The average wage was 57,448 drams, 29 percent growth from a year ago. The wage in public sector was 38,116 drams and 72,627 drams in private sector, a 24 and 30 percent growth in the last 12 months respectively.

The committee also said Armenia’s foreign trade in January made $165.3 million, posting a 4 percent growth from a year ago, but 61 percent lower than it was in December 2005. Armenian exports in January, 2006 made $47.8 million and imports amounted to $117.4 million, posting a 10 and 1.7 percent growth respectively.
