YEREVAN, February 1. /ARKA/. The Armenian national football team is ready to be the first to play a match in Azerbaijan, says a statement by Director of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) Armen Minasyan.
“Immediately after the sortition of the elimination stage of the European championship 2008, the FFA leaders assured their Azerbaijani counterparts that we are ready, with the best security guarantees, in conformity with the norms hospitality and all ceremonies practiced by the football community and determined for matches of international scale, to receive the Azerbaijani national team in Armenia,” Minasyan said.
He stressed that the Armenian side gave assurances that if Azerbaijan provides similar guarantees,
Armenian national team is ready to play with the Azerbaijani team in their country.
As regards the possibility of organizing football matches between the Armenian and Azerbaijani teams in third countries, Minasyan said that the FFa is not considering it now.
“If any official statements of this kind are made, the FFA is ready to consider them,” he said.
The sortition was held in Montre, Switzerland, on January 27.
As a result, Armenia was included in the “A” group along with the national teams of Portugal, Poland, Serbia and Montenegro, Belgium, Finland, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. P.T. -0–
