Armenia is ready for solution of Nagorno Karabakh problem, but Azerbaijani position makes to be cautious

The short visit of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs into the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone is aimed at specifying the parties’ attitudes and discussing several issues before the meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in Paris, Spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Gamlet Gasparyan said.

According to him, the Armenian party departs to the talks in Paris in a positive mood. “Certainly, within the Prague Process quite significant work has been done on making the views of the parties closer, as well as achieving mutual agreement on major issues. Although, it is difficult to say now, on what issues Armenia’s and Azerbaijan’s opinions will differ, what makes us to be cautious in our forecasts, but we hope that in Paris the presidents will manage to make another step forward,” he noted.

Commenting on the optimism expressed by OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair Steven Mann, who said that 2006 could be the year of an agreement on Karabakh, Gasparyan noted that it would be desirable, especially, if the agreement is profitable for both people as well as for the region. “Much effort has been made for it by Minsk Group co-chairs and the international community. Armenia has a wish and willingness to make decisions, but Azerbaijan sometimes makes so tough statements and has straight-out views that it makes us to be cautious,” stressed the spokesman adding that it is necessary to wait for the results of the Paris meeting.

OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, major intermediaries in the peaceful process settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, are now in Baku, and on February 2 they are to arrive in Yerevan. The meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents is scheduled for February 10 in Paris.
