Azad Hye, United Arab Emirates Jan 20 2006 Azad-Hye, Dubai, 21 January 2006: It seems that 2006 will be an active year for the UAE Armenians. The Community which has some 3000 members concentrated in three main cities (Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai), is planning to celebrate the 25th anniversary of organized entity in the UAE. A Syrian Armenian historian Dr. Shogher Ashekian has been invited to prepare a memorial book dedicated to this event. Community members are encouraged to provide Ashekian with all kind of information that will help to produce a great publication. There are lots of factual stories, photos, letters and various archival material available with individuals, that can really enrich the work. The above material is requested to be sent to the Sharjah Armenian Church's e-mail address (armcom@emirates.net.ae), with the promise that, after scanning, all items will be returned to their owners. The Community Address Book (or Directory) is another project that needs attention. This project was originally scheduled to be published in 2004, but it was delayed until this year and now it may need some extra updating before eventual printing. In neighboring Abu Dhabi the celebrations dedicated to the organized community life will commence with the marking of the 25th anniversary of the weekly school, scheduled to take place next March, supported also by a comprehensive memorial book full of interesting articles and photos. Tamar Der Ohannessian, the principal of the school is asking all previous students (since 1981) to provide photos and factual stories related to the school and the role it played in their lives.
