AZERI ASSASSIN-OFFICER RAMIL SAFAROV FACES ADDITIONAL TWO YEARS IN PRISON

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 22. ARMINFO. Azeri assassin-officer Ramil Safarov is facing additional two years in jail for defying Hungarian law enforcers, report Azeri media.

If the Jan 17 2006 trial proves Safarov’s guilt he will get two years more, says his lawyer.

Meanwhile APA reports Safarov’s mother Nubar Safarova as accusing the lawyer of making much ado about the incident. She says that she has talked with her son by phone and he has told her that nothing awful has happened. He just argued with a warden when he took his phone card away.

The leader of the Azeri nationalist Organization for the Liberation of Karabakh Akif Nagi says that the Azeri authorities must voice an official protest against the new action against Safarov. The Jan 17 trial is part of the plan to exert pressure on Safarov, Nagi says noting that “this may well be the handwork of the Armenians.”

To remind, Safarov is facing from 15 years to life in prison for killing Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan in Budapest Feb 19 2004.
