YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 21. ARMINFO. Director General of the Russian scientific- research institute for exploitation of atomic power plants, Deputy Director General for Scientific-Technical Policy of “Rosenergoatom” concern, Doctor of Technical Science, Professor, a member-correspondent of Russian Academy of Sciences, Armen Abagyan, tragically died at the age of 73 on November 18.
The major scientific directions of the Institute were formed under leadership of Armen Abagyan. Due to it, the Institute has become the leading structure securing the scientific-technical support of APP exploitation. Abagyan’s active work on liquidation of Chernobyl disaster aftermath considerably contributed to exposure of the main reasons of the breakdown and to prevention of such incidents. A. Abagyan had many other achievements in the sphere. Besides, he is the author of over 150 scientific works. He has been awarded many orders and medals, including RA Medal for considerable contribution to restoration of the Armenian APP, Medal “Rosenergoatom” for raising the safety of atomic power plants. Titles of “Honored Power Engineer of Russia” (1994) and “Veteran of Atomic Energy and Industry” were conferred on him.
