YEREVAN (YERKIR) – Joe Hockey, Australian Minister for Human Resources was welcomed to the Armenian Church of St Gregory the Illuminator in Singapore by Archbishop Aghan Baliozian and other prominent Armenian figures on 14 November, 2005.
The Minister flew into Singapore early the same morning on official duties and took time out from his busy schedule to visit the iconic Church where he was briefed about Armenian settlement in Singapore in the early 1800’s and the significant contribution of the small Armenian community to Singaporean society.
The Australian Minister has a special interest in all things Armenian. He not only has a lineage of Armenian ancestry, represents a number of Armenian constituents in his electorate of North Sydney but will make his passage to Armenia over the coming days as a guest of the RA Government.
