Preparations for referendum continue in Armenia

The carrying out of referendum on constitutional amendments in Armenia seriously depends on the work of regional election commissions, Head of Armenian Central Election Commission Garegin Azaryan told a REGNUM correspondent.

As for voters lists, Azaryan said that last corrections are currently done, because the referendum must be fair and the current Electoral Code can provide such possibilities. He also reminded that 1/3 of the eligible voters must vote for the amendments to be adopted.

Answering a question of the REGNUM correspondent about exclusions of citizens with Soviet-type passports from the voters lists, Azaryan said that a passport can be exchanged in three days, so if such people want to participate in the elections they may quickly exchange their passports. He also reminded that the recent elections to local administrations passed in accordance with democratic principles and with little violations.

The referendum on constitutional amendments in Armenia is scheduled for November 27.
