WASHINGTON HOPES FOR QUICK NORMALIZATION OF ARMENIAN-TURKISH RELATIONS

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 19. ARMINFO. There already are people in Turkey who are ready to seriously discuss the issue for opening the Armenian-Turkish border, says US Assistant State Secretary for Europe and Eurasia Daniel Fried.

Fried says that the US hopes for the quick settlement of Armenian-Turkish relations. However Turkey links this issue with the Karabakh peace process. US OSCE MG Co-chair for the conflict Stephen Mann who is also visiting Armenia says that the peace process is moving in the right direction.

Fried makes no comment on the constitutional reforms in Armenia saying that no country has the right to express his opinion on the issue before constitutional referendum. He only says that the referendum will improve the relations between the government and the opposition.

Fried says that Iran’s atomic program is the problem of not only the US but the whole international community. The EU proposes settling the issue diplomatically. Iran should listen to the opinion of the world.
