SAMARKAND, AUGUST 29, ARMENPRESS: Acclaimed French singer of Armenian origin, Charles Aznavour, has arrived in Samarkand in the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan, to attend Eastern Melodies international music festival.
He was welcomed by Uzbekistan’s president Islam Karimov. Aznavour traveled today from Samarkand to Bukhara to see its famous architectural monuments and came back the same day. He was quoted by Aida Ibrahimova from the festival steering commission as saying that he had realized his youth dream when at the age of 12 he had read a book called Let Us Go to Samarkand. The festival has brought musicians from 50 countries.
