The Armenian Defense Ministry denied on Thursday reports that an Azerbaijani soldier has been taken prisoner by its troops.
The Arminfo news agency quoted the Defense Ministry spokesman, Colonel Seyran Shahsuvarian, as dismissing the reports as “another piece of misinformation from the Azerbaijani side.”
The Azerbaijani military said on Tuesday that Ramin Khudaverdiev, a 23-year-old warrant officer, went missing near an unspecified section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani line of contact on August 3. It suggested that Khudaverdiev was taken captive by Armenian forces. It was not clear if the reported incident occurred near Nagorno-Karabakh or on the Armenian-Azerbaijani frontier.
Citing a senior official from Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Prisoners of War and Hostages, Turan news agency reported on Thursday that the Yerevan office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has confirmed the Azerbaijani claims in a letter to the ICRC office in Baku.
