He said that to find the suspect had become possible after a photo robot of the suspect had been disseminated by the police that might have thrown a grenade on the Freedom Square in Tbilisi on 10 May during the speeches of Georgian and American presidents.
“Over the last months the Georgian Interior Ministry Anti-Terrorist Center jointly with the American colleagues had worked hard. We have managed to make a possible photo robot of the suspect making it public. Three days ago we have got information of the probable suspect,” he added.
Initially three policemen were sent to arrest the suspect a resident of Tbilisi Vladimir Arutyunyan. When the policemen came to the house where Arutyunyan lived, the suspect began firing from a tommy-gun killing Head of the Interior Ministry Secret Service Zurab Kvlividze.
A task force and additional police unit were sent to the scene. Arutyunyan was wounded in a skirmish and soon detained.
Vladimir Arutyunyan aged 27 for the last years lived with his mother in the Vashlisjvari settlement in Tbilisi. The tommy- gun has been confiscated. Neighbors claim that Arutyunyan had been unemployed.
