MOSCOW, JUNE 16, ARMENPRESS: The Union of Russian Armenians has marked today its fifth anniversary. It comprises several hundred small Armenian organizations across Russia which exerted efforts to preserve their national identity and culture.

“We also aim for further consolidation of relations between Russia and Armenia,” he said. The highlight of the celebration will be a concert of the Armenian song and dance ensemble at the International House of Music in Moscow on Thursday evening.
Abrahamian, who is also a UNESCO goodwill ambassador, inspired by his successful efforts to have six Armenian pilots pardoned by the president of Equatorial Guinea, announced also he was ready to help release 15 Russian sailors who have been in a Nigerian prison since 2003 October.
Abrahamian said though the issue was very sensitive he was prepared to engage in seeking softer prison conditions for the sailors and their eventual release given the mandate of Russian foreign ministry that would allow him to negotiate to that end with Nigerian authorities, citing his effective cooperation with Armenian authorities for release of the pilots. Russian sailors were arrested on charges of smuggling crude oil from Nigeria.
