YEREVAN (YERKIR) – Catholicos Garegin II left for the United States on Tuesday for a 3-week trip. Garegin II made his first trip to California as the head of the Armenian Apostolic church four years ago when the Armenians were celebrating the 1700th anniversary of adopting the Christianity as the nation’s official religion.
New parishes have been founded in California, where the number of Armenians has increased due to the influx of new immigrants.
The Western Diocese of the Armenian church of North America is working to establish new parishes in the Californian cities, especially in Monterey and Valencia, since many Armenians have been moving to northern California from the Southland.
His Holiness will bless new churches in Arizona, Nevada and California, as well as participate in a number of youth-organized events and meet with government and religious officials.
