Pope John Paul II worked hard to establish warm relations with the Eastern churches
ANKARA – Turkish Daily News
I reminded the patriarch of Turkish-Armenians, Mesrob II, that the Vatican had issued statements recognizing the so-called Armenian genocide and that this had angered Turkey. I asked him if the Armenian Church being represented by three patriarchs, from Turkey, Armenia and Lebanon, at the pope’s funeral could be described as the payment of a debt.
The patriarch said each individual had a different reason to attend the pope’s funeral. He said Pope John Paul II had worked hard to establish warm relations with Eastern churches and added that he and the pope had graduated from the same school, Angelicum.
