YEREVAN, OCTOBER 22. ARMINFO. The crew of the copy of an Armenian Cilician trading boat of the 13th century, which has dropped the anchor at the St.Lazar Island in Venice, takes measures on conservation of the sailing boat and its preparation for winter with the object of continuing the expedition to the Western Mediterranean beginning from May, 2005.
The crew informed ARMINFO that the Venetian authorities proposed a place in the military port and guard. However, the crew decided to leave the boat near the Armenian St.Lazar Island.
Conservation of the boat is accompanied by participation of the crew in various events held on St.Lazar Island at present. The finish of the expedition coincided with the official visit of Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan to Italy. Vardan Oskanyan together with Armenian Ambassador to Italy Gagik Baghdasaryan, Ambassador of Italy to Armenia Marco Clemente participated in the ceremony of laying wreaths on the tomb of the legendary researcher of history of Cilicia Ghevond Alishan, who had lived and created for long decades on St.Lazar Island. The next day, the sailing boat Cilicia was put to the Venetian lagoon for the last time at the request of the participants of an international seminar “Save the Books” held at the Monastery Complex St.Lazar, who expressed desire to navigate by the ancient boat.
It should be noted that in the course of the first stage of the navigation, the crew visited 12 countries, crossing the waters of the Black, Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. Monday, on October 25, at 4:00 am. the crew will return to Armenia by Vienna-Yerevan flight.-
