TBILISI, OCTOBER 19, ARMENPRESS: Georgia’s Unified Distributing Company (UDC) began Monday import of 60 megawatt of Armenian electricity that will be supplied mainly to Samtskhe Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli, two southern regions facing an acute shortage of energy.
A UDC executive was quoted by Itar-Tass as saying that Armenian energy supplies will continue up to 2005, April 1. UDC plans to start energy imports from Russia after restoration of Daryal energy transmitting line that connects power grids of Georgia and Russia.
Georgia’s energy ministry said meantime that Telasi company, whose 75 percent stocks are owned by Russia’s Unified Energy Systems also intends to start import of around 100 megawatt of Armenian electricity.
Georgia has been facing electricity shortage since 1992, especially in winter. Residents in many regions receive electricity in winter for 4-6 hours.
