YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 27. ARMINFO. Opening of the Armenian-Turkish boundary is important for stability in the region. said Chairman of the European Commission Romano Prodi during his meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdougan in Brussels.
According to the Turkish newspaper “Sabat,” the Armenian topic was on the agenda of the meeting. Romano Prodi informed Erdougan of his impression from the visit to the South Caucasus and pointed out the necessity of solving the tasks existing in the Caucasus. Turkey plays a great role in stabilization of the situation in the Caucasus, he said. In this context, opening of the Armenian-Turkish boundary is considered as a extremely positive process, Romano Prodi added. At the same time, he expressed opinion that though opening of the boundary with Armenia is not a precondition for Turkey’s membership at the EU, nevertheless, the problems with Armenia may occur in the process of Turkey’s admission to the EU. In his turn, Erdougan said that Turkey intends to support good relations with its neighbors.
