ARMENIAN CHAMPIONSHIP ON SAILING SPORT TO BE HELD ON LAKE SEVAN

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 23. ARMINFO. Armenian championship on sailing sport will take place in the territory of the Yacht Club of the Armenian State Engineering University on Lake Sevan on September 25-26. The competition is held in remembrance of the former student of the university, one of the originators of wind surfing in Armenia, Armen Yeritsyan, who was killed in Karabakh war.

Talking to ARMINFO, Director of Sailing Sport-Center Mher Tovmasyan said that revival of the types of sailing sport in the country and organization of competitions have become possible due to the serious support of Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, who provided sportsmen with windsurfing boards of new model and pays a great attention to development of sailing sport in Armenia. The competitions are aimed at immortalizing the name of our killed friend and to popularizing this type of sport in the country attracting the public attention to the sport potential of Sevan as a place for active rest and tourism, Mher Tovmasyan said. He said that the initiators of the competition intend to recreate the Armenian Federation of Yacht Sport, as its closure yet in the middle of 1990s was unjust.
