YEREVAN, AUGUST 23, ARMENPRESS: Yesterday the trial of people accused in unseating of government started in Malabo district of Equatorial Guinea, among them 6 Armenian citizens. The lawyer of Armenian pilots have asked the court to stop the legal case against his clients and set them free.

Dozens of people have been detained in Equatorial Guinea since March of the running year, including foreigners. They are claimed in an attempt to unseat the president of the country, Nguema. The leader of the rival group, citizen of South Africa Diutond, yesterday partly admitted his guilt. He also said that other people detained have nothing to do with the coup d’etat. Yesterday, 7 South Africans, 6 Armenians and 4 subjects of Equatorial Guinea were brought to court together with Diutond, among them former minister of economic planning Nchamo.

According to France Press, the South Africans and Armenians have been kept in the notorious prison of Makabo called Black Beach. On March 16, one of the detainees, German citizen Nershitc died in prison. Equatorial Guinea authorities stated that death was caused by malaria. However, Amnesty International sources state that Nershitc died of torture.
