TWO ARMENIAN BRANDY PRODUCERS SHARE RIGHT TO `ARARAT´ LOGO

YEREVAN, JUNE 25. ARMINFO. The “Yerevan Brandy Company” (YBC) CJSC and the “Yerevan brandy-wine-vodka factory `Ararat'” OJSC concluded an open-end contract on equal use of the “Ararat” logo.

At his press conference, YBC President Pierre Laretch reported that both the companies equally shared in founding the “Brandy Bridge” JV, which is the owner of the “Ararat” logo. The contract will regulate the use of the “Ararat” logo in the world and is to enable both producers to observe the standards of Armenian brandy. The YBC President pointed out that the principal task is both companies’ right of property to the combined logo “Ararat”, as until recently this right has been disputed by the two companies. This year, the YBC intends to purchase a total of 20,000 tons of grapes in Armenia. The company’s sales exceeded 4mln. liters last year.

Chairman of the Board of Directors, “Yerevan brandy-wine-vodka factory `Ararat'”, Sedrak Arustamyan reported that after a long interval this April the company started the production of the “Noy” brandy using the “Ararat” logo. A total of 200,000 liters of brandy have been produced, 80% of this quantity were exported to Russia. The company plans to produce 2mln. liters of brandy before the end of 2004. The factory has at its disposal 600,000 decaliters of alcohol. The factory currently employs 240 people and intends to increase this number to 600 by the end of 2004. Arustamyan stated that this year the company intends to purchase 15,000 tons of grapes in Armenia. The factory belongs to the “Multi Group” concern owned by the Armenian businessman Gagik Tsarukyan.
