On June 15 the World Armenian Congress’ Board Bureau session, with the participation of its president Ara Abrahamian, took place in “Ashot Erkat” hall of “Armenia” hotel. The Bureau summarized WAC’s work done in the period of October of 2003 till now. Ara Abrahamian underscored the fact of “Genocide Recognition as a Turkey-Armenia relation improvement factor” scientific conference organized by WAC a month ago and hosted 23 specialists from different countries. He mentioned about the created commission of specialists whose work on Armenian Genocide acknowledgement will give its first fruits in near future. But before that time comes the Armenian Institute of International Law and Political Science in Moscow publishes books using the Russian archives on Armenian Genocide. Mr. Abrahamian said that, though the Genocide acknowledgment process goes on by the help of the Diaspora, there was a need to create a Pan-Armenian institution that would be able to carry on its soldiers the responsibility for the cause. Mr. Abrahamian thinks that the most important thing by now is to aid the specialists’ commission and to make useful suggestions. Both individuals and NGOs may contribute to the commission.
Vladimir Aghayan, vice-president of the Armenians’ Union of Russia, said that from October 5 to 9 days of WAC and of the Armenians’ Union of Russia are going to be held in Armenia and in Karabakh. This time together with Russia there will be other participants from CIS and the Diaspora. UNESCO is also cooperating with this program and thus affords opportunity for other countries to participate. That will surely contribute to the friendly atmosphere and establishing close cultural ties. Mr. Aghayan noted that the process of equipping the schools of Armenia and Artsakh (Karabakh) with computers still continues and that the UNESCO will take part in this activity this year. There are other social and humanitarian programs to be carried out in near future but the most important is the economical forum of October 6-9, which is going to discuss economical situation and its perspectives in Armenia.
The Armenian branch of the WAC will officially open on that October days but before that time comes branches of France and South Korea WAC will open.
The World Armenian Congress is to have its anthem and symbol. The president of the Artists’ Union of Armenia Karen Aghamian and the president of the Composers’ Union of Armenia Robert Amirghanian are entrusted with this task.
