ARMENIA TO TAKE PART IN NATO TRAINING: SERGE SARGSYAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 9. ARMINFO. Armenia intends to be a full participant in the planned NATO training in Azerbaijan, RA Minister of Defense Serge Sargsyan told reporters.

He stressed that only full-scale participation in NATO’s training is acceptable for Armenia, though official Baku insists on the country’s observer status.

According to Sargsyan, Armenia will take part in a conference on planning NATO military exercises, which is to be held in Baku on June 22. There are no obstacles to this, and the day of Armenian participants’ leaving for Tbilisi to receive entry visas is known, Sargsyan said. He pointed out that the participation in such conferences is extremely beneficial for gaining experience.

The RA Minister of Defense also reported that the 2005 military budget has been increased, but no specific sum is known yet.

Speaking of the recent exchange of fire on the border, Sargsyan pointed out that such incidents are frequent and should not arouse concern. The Azerbaijani side constantly tries to advance its borderline position, and the Armenian side takes preventive measures, Sargsyan said.
