A Foreign Affairs Ministry delegation could finally leave for Equatorial Guinea. They will clear up the question of Armenian pilots who are suspected in coup d’etat and spying. Vartan Oskanian, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed a hopeful view that this story will have a happy end. These 6 Armenian pilots were working in this dictatorial African country and now they are charged, alongside with other foreigners and locals, with an attempt to overthrow the president of the country.
According to unchecked sources, on May 5 the trial over the pilots has already finished. Ashot Karapetian, the captain of the plane, was sentenced to life imprisonment and Samuel Machkalian, navigator, Razmik Khachatrian, flight engineer, Samuel Darbinian, second pilot, as well as two members of the crew were sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment.
