YEREVAN, MAY 3. ARMINFO. The train ferry with carriages for Armenia is blocked in the sea near to Batumi port, Director of the largest expeditionary company of Armenia “Apaven” Gagik Aghajanyan told ARMINFO.
He said that the train ferry is still in Batumi and the Georgian transport workers negotiate with the Ajarian party for unloading of the ferry in Batumi, if the Ajarian party secures passage of the carriages to Georgia. Otherwise, the ferry will be unloaded in Poti. Aghajanyan returned from Georgia Monday morning and is concerned about the situation in that country i.e. police and military patrol inspects the whole transport and passengers. Deputy Head of the Department of the Armenian Railway Roman Stepanyan told ARMINFO’s correspondent that his Georgian colleagues promised to take all the possible measures to diversify the cargoes from Batumi to Poti. Further details will be known on Tuesday morning, Stepanyan said.
Talking to ARMINFO, an expert of one of the largest petroleum trader companies in Armenia, “Flesh,” Mushegh Elchyan said that the company started importing oil products to Armenia via Poti since the middle of April, 2004. However, the load in Poti will be reflected on the petrol market of Armenia only in several days, he said. It should be noted that Sunday in conformity with the order of Ajarian authorities, the rails linking Georgia and Ajaria were disassembled, which became the reason of idleness of Batumi port. Poti changed over to an extraordinary regime of work in connection with closing of Batumi sea port. The Georgian Government takes measures to facilitate the process of receiving cargoes in Poti port, which was earlier planned for Batumi port. The customs service is strengthened both in Poti port and railway. At the same time, the Poti port cannot cope with the sharply increased current of cargoes because of the economic blockade of Ajaria. Poti dockers process only 30% of the cargoes arriving at the port.-
