arminfo: ILHAM ALIEV ACCUSES AUTHORS OF NATIONAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WRONG ORIENTATION

BAKU, APRIL 9. ARMINFO. Azeri President Ilham Aliev met Thursday with the council of the national encyclopedia to consider the preliminary version of the Big Encyclopedia particularly one of its volumes concerning Azerbaijan’s history.

TURAN reports that Aliev criticized the authors of the encyclopedia for apolitical stance and lack of principle. They did not mention the names of famous public and scientific figures giving meanwhile much space to Armenian activists.

Aliev was upset at seeing “Stepanakert” mentioned in the book. “Don’t you know that there is no such city.” He was also indignant that the encyclopedia mentions the first secretary of the central committee of the Azeri Communist Party Vezirov but says nothing about his father Haydar Aliev. “This is a political mistake,” he said. Aliev was against calling the 70-80s of the last century “a period of stagnation.” Finally Alive’s temper gave way and he exclaimed angrilly: “You are traitors ready to serve anybody and write any history. I imagine what kind of encyclopedia you would have written had the election ended otherwise.”

According to Aliev, the 70-80s ruled by his father Haydar Aliev were the period of prosperity. “One must write history correctly.” He ordered the executive secretary of the national encyclopedia out of the hall and said that the council must prepare a new “correct” version.
