YEREVAN, APRIL 5. ARMINFO. During today’s opposition rally in Yerevan the leader of the National Unity party Artashes Gegamyan called on the Armenian government to hold a nationwide confidence referendum and to resign “like men.”
He reminded his voters that a nationwide rally will be held at Liberty Square Apr 9 16:00. It will result in the Armenian president’s and defence minister’s resignation. Gegamyan said that the Communist Party of Armenia announced today that it will join the Justice bloc and the National Unity party and will take part in the Apr 9 rally.
Today’s rally was held amid constant skirmishes of ralliers and journalists with bald headed young people, reportedly the men of the Center community prefect Gagik Beglaryan. Gegamyan was bombarded with eggs from the roofs of the nearby buildings. The cameras and dictaphones of some correspondents and TV reporters were broken, the cameramen of the Kentron TV company and the Hay Lur news program beaten. Gegamyan kept calling on the ralliers not to yield to the government’s provocation and tricks. The police did not even cared to interfere.
