panarmenian: EU READY TO ASSIGN 100 MILLION EUROS FOR ARMENIAN NPP CLOSING

At present Armenia is conducting works for creating alternative energy sources in case of closing of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), RA minister of finance and economy Vardan Khachatrian told journalists today. According to the minister, the European Union is ready to allocate 100 million euros for the ANPP closing, while the sum needed for it comprises 1 billion euros, and all the possible variants for getting the essential funds are being discussed at present. In the minister’s words, Iran-Armenia gas pipeline, the construction of which will begin in 2004 and finish in two years, could be as well considered an alternative energy source. Khachatrian also stated that a strategic program for the development of Armenian energy is to be worked out till 2020.
