Assadourian Elected as Chair of the Standing Committee on Citizenship
and Immigration
Mr. Sarkis Assadourian (Brampton Centre, Lib.): was today elected as
Chair of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration by the
members of the Committee.
Formerly the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship
and Immigration M.P. Assadourian brings a wealth of experience to the
position. The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration hears
witnesses and gathers information on legislative initiatives as well
as reviewing the legislation introduced by the Government.
The election of the Chair by the committee members assures that the
business of the committee will be carried out in a fair and impartial
manner. Fellow Members of Parliament Raymond Folco and Madeleine
Dalphond Guiral were elected as Vice Chairs of the Committee, and will
act as Chair in M.P. Assadourian’s absence
Commenting on his election as Chair M.P. Assadourian said; ” I am
pleased to have won the confidence of the members of the Standing
Committee on Citizenship and Immigration to act as the Chair of this
important Committee I look forward the for the opportunity to hear the
opinions and input of citizens from across Canada as well as from
members of my Constituency of Brampton Centre.”.
