NYTimes: Armenian Patriarch of Istanbul Injured

The Armenian patriarch of Istanbul, Mesrob II, suffered a broken foot and nose in a traffic accident in southern Turkey on Sunday, news reports said.

Mesrob was taken to a hospital in the southern Mediterranean resort province of Antalya, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, private CNN-Turk television reported.

The circumstances behind the crash were not immediately clear.

Mesrob is the spiritual leader of most of the country’s estimated 65,000 Armenian Christians, who live mostly in Istanbul.
