groong: Armenia sends rescue team to Iran

Yerevan, 27 December: A team of rescuers of the Armenian Emergencies
Ministry flew to Iran on Saturday (27 December). Thirty rescuers with
specially trained dogs, five medics and five seismologists will take
part in the rescue and search effort in Bam destroyed by the strong
earthquake.
The chief for preventing catastrophes and eliminating the aftermath
at the Armenian Emergencies Ministry, Col Sergey Azaryan, heads the
emergency group.

The team will supply 15 cases with medicines and equipment necessary
for the rescue work, a spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry,
Gamlet Gasparyan, told ITAR-TASS. Several officials of the republic’s
Foreign Ministry went to Iran together with the rescuers to work
as interpreters.
Armenian President Robert Kocharyan sent a telegram of condolence to
the Iranian leadership over the earthquake, the presidential press
service told ITAR-TASS.
