Moscow December 08, RBC. In 2004, the EU intends to consider the issue of Armenia’s entry into the organization, EU Commissar Gunther Verheugen announced at a meeting with Armenian President Robert Kocharian in Brussels. This is the first announcement of this kind made by the EU in regard to Armenia’s entry.
At the meeting with Kocharian, European Parliament Chairman Pat Cox said he had the impression that Armenia adhered to European standards. Cox said that at present all three countries of the South Caucasus – Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia – were petitioning to receive the status of a new neighbor of the EU, which is an intermediate step to becoming a EU member, the Russia Journal reported.
