armenpress: NEW US EMBASSY COMPOUND IN ARMENIA TO BE READY BY 2004 DECEMBER

&nbsp&nbsp YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS:
US ambassador to Armenia John Ordway told a news conference today that the new compound of the US embassy occupies an area of 90,469 sq/m, the biggest land plot on which a US embassy has ever been built. The compound will include a five-storey Chancery, USAID Building (future), two-storey Marine Security Guard Quarters, GSO Annex, Warehouse, Main and Service Compound Access Control Structures.

&nbsp&nbsp To date, the overall project has reached 42% completion and is expected to be completed by December 2004. The embassy will not block citizen access to Lake Yerevan, which remains the property of the Republic of Armenia.

&nbsp&nbsp Despite its huge dimensions the new embassy will not, however, be able to give quarters to all US organizations, acting in Armenia. Out of major such organizations, the US Department of Agriculture office in Armenia and the Peace Corps will remain in their current premises.
